Péter Erdei is the director in chief of the Zoltán Kodály Teacher Training Institute in Kecskemét. He was born in 1944 and studied vocal teaching and conducting at the Franz Liszt Music College from where he graduated in 1968. He is a joint founder of the Kodály Musical Training Institute (Boston, USA). He was choirmaster of the Debrecen Kodály Choir (1983-1985 and 1998-2000) and the Hungarian Radio Choir (1990-1992). He has made numerous radio and CD recordings premiering choral works by living Hungarian composers and received many rewards and prizes in recognition of his efforts. He has conducted and held masterclasses in Great Britain, Norway, Canada, USA, Australia, Korea, Italy and Greece. He has won the Liszt prize and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Capital University (Colombus, Ohio, USA.)
In 2009 he was awarded with Béla Bartók-Ditta Pásztory Award and in 2020 he was given the title Excellent Artist.
