Csaba Onczay was completed his studies at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music under Antal Friss. Later he was a pupil of Vladimir Shirinsky in the Tschaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and of Andre Navarra in Siena. When he completed his studies, he became a professor of the Academy of Music. From among the numerous prizes he won at international competitions two of the most important ones have been the 1st prizes at the International Pablo Casals Competition in Budapest (1973), and The Villa Lobos Competition in Rio (1976). For his excellent performance of Kodály�s Solo Sonata he received the Liszt Prize. As a soloist he appeared in almost all the major concert halls of Europe, America and the Far East, performing with the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig, the RAI Orchestra and several American orchestras. Besides his numerous radio and television appearances he has recorded works of C.P.E. Bach, Schumann, Lalo, Villa Lobos, Dohnányi, the complete sonatas of Beethoven and the solo suites of Bach. He is a noteworthy interpreter of contemporary music, many Hungarian composers have dedicated their work to him. Parallel with his performing activity, he has made master-courses in different parts of the world. In Firenze he was the conductor of an orchestra formed by him for two years, and he is a regular guest of the most renowned international festivals.
