She studied the piano, organ and cembalo at the Bartók Conservatoire, then at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in her native city under Gábor Lehotka, Ferenc Gergely and János Sebestyén. She obtained diplomas with distinction in organ and piano in 1978. From 1978 to 1980 she continued her studies in Leipzig with Hannes Kästner, organist at the church of St. Thomas. She has attended master classes of Marie-Claire Alain, Jean Guillou, Johannes-Ernst Köhler, Michael Radulescu, Michael Schneider and Luigi Tagliavini. Zsuzsa Elekes has won prizes at several music competition: 2nd prize at the International Liszt Organ Competition in Budapest 1978; 3rd prize at the Prague Spring International Organ Competition in 1979; 1st prize at the International J.S.Bach Competition in Leipzig in 1980.
In 1986 on the occasion of the Liszt anniversary, she was awarded the commemorative medal of the Liszt Society, and in 1988 she obtained the prize of the Cziffra Foundation.
Besides recordings for radio and television Zsuzsa Elekes has made several LPs for Hungaroton. She has given solo recitals as guest artist in Austria, Czechoslovakia, East and West Germany, England, France, Italy, Poland, Romania, the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, and Japan.
