Katalin Elláné Bodonyi is a singer, choir director, retired deputy choir director and section leader of the National Choir. She began her musical studies at the Music Primary School in Miskolc, then continued at the Music High School, specializing in piano and singing. She then studied at the Academy of Music (secondary school teacher of singing and choir conducting), where she obtained her diploma.
After three years of teaching, she joined the Hungarian Radio Choir. When the Hungarian State Choir was formed, its director, Miklós Pászti, offered her the position of section leader. From 1986, she worked as a rehearsal conductor, first as alto section leader and later as assistant conductor. During Miklós Pászti's illness and after the death of the founding conductor, she was choir director of the State Choir (as it was then called) for two seasons. In addition to her work with the ensemble, she also performed frequently as a soloist. As a vocal soloist, she worked with such names as Mátyás Antal, István Ella, Gábor Hollerung, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, Krisztina Laki, Júlia Pászthy, and Peter Schreier. As a soloist, he has given concerts in many countries outside Hungary (e.g., Germany, Poland, Sweden, Israel).
In 2025, she received the Hungarian Gold Cross of Merit (civilian division) in recognition of her artistic work.
