Kálmán Strausz graduated from the Budapest Music Academy where he was a pupil of Zoltán Vásárhelyi and István Párkai. From 1974 he worked as an editor at Hungarian Radio and from 1977 was the conductor of the Budapest Youth Choir and the leader of the Hungarian Television� classical music department. From 1984 to 1991 he was the choirmaster of the Debrecen Kodály Choir. He has won numerous competition awards with his choirs, and made studio, radio and television recordings.

He is a founder of the Budapest International Choir Competition and its artistic director, and a jury member at international competitions (Debrecen Béla Bartók Choir Competition, Stuttgart German Choir Competition, Lawton University Singing Competiton). He has been invited to work in Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Israel, Japan and the USA. In April 1999, he was invited to rehearse Verdi� opera Luisa Miller in Barcelona. Between 1992 and 2008 he was choirmaster of the Hungarian Radio Choir. In 1997 he was awarded the Liszt Prize and in 2004 the Lajtha Prize.
