Baritone Mihály Kálmándi began his musical studies, concentrating first on piano and later the classical guitar. He graduated with distinction from the Cluj Music Academy, Romania, at the age of 24. He studied with Dr János Sipos in Hungary who helped acquire the traditional Italian style. He has been a member of the Hungarian State Opera House since 1988, where he has sung all the major baritone roles. In 1990 he won the Juventus prize and his international career was launched thanks to his mastery of the baritone solo from Liszts oratorio Cantico del Sol. He has performed in many of Europes major theatres and concert halls and worked with such conductors as Alain Lombard, Kent Nagano, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Rico Saccani and Lamberto Gardelli.
He was awarded with Kossuth Award in 2019.
