Kokas Katalin

She began to play violin at the age of five. She continued her studies in 1989 at prep school of the Liszt Ferenc Music Academy Budapest, in the class of Ferenc Halász and Dénes Kovács. From 1994 to 96 she studied at the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music with Lóránd Fenyves, then she went back to the Budapest Academy, and graduated as student of Eszter Perényi. She was participant of the master classes of Lóránd Fenyves, Igor Ozim, Endre Wolf, Tibor Varga, György Pauk, Dénes Zsigmondy, György Kurtág, Jaime Laredo and Leon Fleischer.
After successful concerts in Hungary, she had won First Prize at the Usti Nad Orlice International Violin Competition in the Czech in 1994, at the Concerto Competition in Toronto in 1996 and 97, at the Simmering Bartók Competition and Martinu Competition in 1998. She was the winner of the International Flesch Károly Violin Competition in 1999, and the International Szigeti József Competition in 2002. As a soloist and as a chamber musician she regularly plays in concert halls of Europe, Africa (Cape Town, Johannesbourg) and America (Carnegie Hall). She attended several international festivals like Prussia Cove (UK), Delft (The Netherlands), Sevilla, Budapest Spring Festival, Cannes, Kuressare (Estonia), Karthago (Tunesia), Louvre Auditorium (Paris).
She has worked with Miklós Perényi, Dénes Várjon, Péter Nagy, Gergely Bogányi, Domonkos Héja, Barnabás Kelemen, Philippe Cassard, Thorlief Thedeen, András Ligeti, the Chilingirien Quartett, János Rolla and the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra, the Bratislava Chamber Orchestra.
