László Fenyő was born in Debrecen in 1975 to musician parents. At the age of 13, he entered the preparatory class at the Music Academy having just won an national music school cello competition. He later successfully enrolled at the Music Academy. A year later, he went to the Lubeck Music College, where he was a student of David Geringas and graduated in 1997. He spent a year gaining orchestral experience with the Hamburg Radio Orchestra (NDR) and then auditioned and was accepted as solo cellist for the Philharmonia Hungarica, an orchestra originally established by Hungarians emigrés who fled following the 1956 revolution. In 2001, László Fenyő joined one of Germany´s premiere orchestras, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. Between 1991 and 2000, he entered nine competitions and was a prize winner in virtually all of them. In 1998, he was joint winner of the Hungarian Radio National Cello Competition. His most recent success was as a prize winner at the September 2004 Casals competition in Frankfurt, perhaps the most prestigious cello competition of them all.
