Gábor Monostori was born in Budapest on 23 November 1983. He was admitted to the Special Talents Department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 1997, where he studied with Gyöngyi Keveházi and István Gulyás until 2002. In 2000 he was awarded the Sári Bíró Memorial Prize and the Grand Prize of the Hungaroton Talent Competition. From 2007 to 2008 he was a student at the Reina Sofia Esuela Superior de Música in Madrid, where he studied with renowned professors such as Ralf Gothóni, Eldar Nebolsin, Menahem Pressler and Bruno Canino. During this time, he has performed with chamber group Grupo Metamorfosis in numerous concerts throughout Spain, including in the chamber hall of the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid. He has twice participated in the Encuentro de Música de Santander festival, where he performed as a partner of horn player Radovan Vlatkovic.

He participated in piano courses of Dimitrij Bashkrirov, Rolf Dieter Aarens and Ian Wijn. In 2009 he graduated as a teacher of music at the Academy of Music under the supervision of Sándor Falvai and Attila Némethy, and was a scholarship student at the University Doctoral School from 2010 to 2013. He obtained his doctorate in 2018. His dissertation was written on Julian Fontana, the posthumous publisher of Frederic Chopin's works. On 17 April 2018, he gave the final concert of his DLA in piano at the Solti Hall of the Liszt Academy.

He is also active as a pianist. He is a frequent soloist and chamber musician. He has performed at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, the Liszt Academy, the Pesti Vigadó, the Grazioso Music Salon and the Budapest Music Center, among others.

Since September 2008, he has been teaching at the Szent István Music High School in Budapest, where he was also deputy director from 2015 to 2018. His wife Gyöngyi Ujházi cellist is also a teacher at the institution. They have been performing together since 2022 and have given a series of chamber music concerts featuring contemporary composers.
