Gábor Winand was born in Budapest in the 28th of June, 1964. After finishing study on jazz singing at Béla Bartók Music Art School he received at once the front post in the group of guitarist Gyula Babos, one of leading personalities of Hungarian jazz life.
During the years he worked together with several formations and personalities of Hungarian jazz scene (György Vukán, László Dés, ESP Group, etc). Recently he is constant member of the Elemér Balázs Group.
His musical co-operation with renowned guitarist-composer Gábor Gadó lasts since their 1990 acquaintance. Winand's two internationally acclaimed CDs (Corners of my mind, 2001; Agent spirituel, 2003) at the BMC label are also deriving from this collaboration. At both albums French magazine Jazzman gave highest rank to the combination of Gadó's music with Winand's eerie, haunting vocals. Recently he is working on his third solo album.
He died in the 15th of June, 2021 after a long illness.
