András Derecskei was born in 1982 in Budapest into a family of musicians. He subsequently received three masters degrees from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in violin cum laude, composition and conducting.

As a composer Derecskei has been a prize winner of numerous competitions including: Liszt Academy Composition Competition (First Prize and Attila Bozay Special Award), Budapest Spring Festival Fugato Foundation Competition (Second and Public’s Prizes). Recently, in September 2015 he was a prize winner in the Crossover Competition in Mannheim, Germany. Derecskei has received a Zoltán Kodály Composition Fellowship three times and his compositions has been featured on the Hungarian National Television and Radio several times and have been performed almost all over the world.

As a chamber musician he won several prizes such as the Hungarian National Chamber Music Competition (Grand and First Prize), Leó Weiner Chamber Music Competition (Second Prize), and the International Janáček String Quartet Competition (Third Prize). He has served as assistant conductor of the Szolnok Symphony Orchestra between 2012-2014, and conducted several other orchestras. Derecskei currently serves as an assistant conductor for the Arizona Symphony Orchestra and conductor of the UA Philharmonic, while pursuing his DMA in orchestral conducting with Dr. Thomas Cockrell.
