Mészáros Zsolt Máté

organ

Zsolt Máté Mészáros was born in 1992 in Miskolc and commenced his organ studies at the city's Béla Bartók High School of Music with Gabriella Mátyus Andrássy. In 2012, he was admitted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where he continued his training under the tutelage of László Fassang, János Pálúr, István Ruppert and Balázs Szabó. He has also participated in master classes led by Arvid Gast, Christoph Bossert, Hans-Ola Ericsson, Michel Bouvard, Ton Koopman and Zsigmond Szathmáry.

Since December 2013, he has served as organist for the Szent László Church in Budapest's Kőbánya district, and as répétiteur for the church choir. Outside of Hungary, he has given concerts in France, Germany, Serbia and Slovakia. After taking first prize at the Southern Transdanubian Philharmonic's 2012 audience competition, he won a second Annie Fischer Scholarship for Performing Artists in 2017.

He takes a special interest in historical organs and, today a rarity, blower-powered harmoniums. He regularly appears as a soloist, organ accompanist and continuo player, and his concerts often feature large-scale compositions from the Romantic and modern organ repertoire. At his concerts marking the 205th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt, he performed all of the composer's works for solo organ, as well as his major works of sacred music. Intent on helping to popularise contemporary music, he has been involved in the Hungarian premières of several pieces.
