Asztalos Alfréd

Alfréd Asztalos began playing a musical instrument relatively late. When he was in sixth grade, his parents enrolled him in the music school in Senta, where he began playing the clarinet. He was greatly influenced by his teacher, József Csipe Tarapcsik, who, within a few months, inspired such a love for the instrument in him that he decided even then that he wanted to continue playing the clarinet in the future.
He participated in the composition workshop led by Konstantin Stefanović in Magyarkanizsa and was also a regular attendee at Szilárd Mezei’s workshops. He is constantly trying new things; he loves to experiment and improvise, and he is no stranger to contemporary improvisational music and composition.
He has performed several times on the stage of the Népszínház in Subotica, playing in the operettas "Fekete Péter", "Mágnás Miska", and "Hippolit, the Butler". As a musical narrator, he participated in a performance of the Subotica Children’s Theater’s production "Csokibaba’s Journey", for which the music was composed by his former teacher, Konstantin Stefanović. In 2020, he served as a judge for the online Set to Music Poems Competition for high school students.
In addition to performing, he has been teaching for more than 15 years. He is a clarinet teacher at the Magyarkanizsa Elementary Music School. He has performed in various ensembles and as a soloist, and was a member of the Szilárd Mezei Septet, among others. Together with cellist Máté Ábrahám and keyboardist Árpád Szerda, he co-founded the band IO in 2018, of which he has been a member ever since.
