Conductor and music director Lajos Blázy was born in Budapest on June 25, 1962. Coming from a Lutheran clergy family, he grew up close to churches and organs from an early age. He completed his basic music studies in piano, while also learning to play the organ at the cantor training school in Fót. In 1980, he continued his studies at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in the choir conducting class of József Makláry. He graduated in 1985 and was accepted into the conducting program at the Academy of Music, where he studied with Ervin Lukács and András Ligeti. He received his diploma in 1991. In addition, he trained in numerous master classes, studying with Kurt Sanderling and Helmuth Rilling, among others.
In addition to his musical career, he began teaching in 1982, teaching music theory, choir conducting, and chamber music to students at several vocational schools. From 1991, he was a lecturer at the Pécs College of Music for 10 years. Meanwhile, he was theater director first in Győr, then in Pécs from 1994 to 2001.
From 2001, he regularly gave concerts in France and performed as a conductor not only in Hungary but also in many other countries, both in theatre performances and concerts. As a choirmaster, he conducted the choirs of the Baptist congregation in Újpest and the Lutheran congregation in Rákospalota. Until his sudden death on October 3, 2025, at the age of 63, he was the cantor and presbyter of the Lutheran Church in Újpest
