Ágnes Várallyay obtained degrees with highest honors in both piano (1989) and harpsichord (1993) at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest. She was in the piano class of István Lantos and Péter Solymos and the harpsichord class of János Sebestyén. She also studied harpsichord with Bob van Asperen at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam between 1990 and 1992 and attended the fortepiano courses of Malcolm Bilson and Jos van Immerseel.

In 1992 she won a prize at the IX International Bach Competition in Leipzig. Since then she has given concerts and masterclasses in several European countries, Japan and the United States. She works regularly with noted soloists and conductors such as Géza Stuller, Béla Drahos, Géza István Hargitai and Pál Németh, and with numerous ensembles, including the Budapest Chamber Opera, Savaria Baroque Orchestra, Kammerphilharmonie Amadé, Matáv Symphony Orchestra and the Hungarian Virtuosi.

For fifteen years she taught harpsichord at the Academy of Music and is currently professor at the Weiner Leo Music School in Budapest. She received her Doctorate from the Academy of Music in 2008.
