Péter Pálinkás began his musical studies at the Béla Bartók Music School as a student of István Párkai in the organ composition department. He graduated from the Academy of Music with a degree in conducting. He studied with teachers such as Erzsébet Szőnyi, Erzsébet Legányné Hegyi, Zoltán Vásárhelyi, József Maklári and Péter Erdei.
In 1981 he was invited by Ferenc Sapszon to join the Hungarian Radio Choir, first as a singer, then as a soloist and leader of the Choir. During the nearly 20 years with the Choir, he participated in numerous performances in Hungary and abroad, and was also a participant in several recordings and radio recordings.
In 2001, he became the principal conductor of the Honvéd Férfikar, and in 2003, at the request of Csaba Somos, he took over the professional direction of the Choir of the Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen until his retirement in 2012. He was also the choirmaster of the Építők Choir, the KISZ Youth Choir, the Ikarus Choir, the Vasas Choir, the HVDSZ Men's Choir, the Semmelweis Choir and the VPOP Franz Liszt Men's Choir. From 1984 to 2020 he was the conductor of the more than 100-year-old Tungsram Zoltán Kodály Male Choir, and from 2017 he was the conductor of the Ozvena Slovak National Choir.
In 2002 he was awarded the title of Knight of Hungarian Culture in recognition of his lifetime achievements, and in 2009 he received the KÓTA award for his work as a conductor.
He died on the 18th of November 2020, at the age of 68.
