Kecskés L., András was awarded a degree in playing the luth and gitar by the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna where he was a student of professor Karl Scheit. He studied playing the viola da gamba with August Wenzinger and Veronika Gutmann from 1972 till 1975.

At 1975 he attended the master's course of early music led by professor Nicolaus Harnoncourt at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. He was awarded further degrees at the summeracademie in Innsbruck by Michael Schäffer (Cologne) 1974 and Eugen Dombois (Basel) in 1975.

He worked as a professor of lute-playing at the following summer master's courses between 1979 and 2003: Groznjan, Zadar (Croatia), Szombathely, Szentendre, Győr (Hungary), Bruxelles (Belgium), Royaumont (France), Csíkszereda (Romania).

In 1970 he founded his ensembles (the Bakfark Bálint Lute-Trio and Collegium Musicum), which won the Brugge (Belgium) Early Music Contest in 1978. The Kecskés Ensemble has a repertoire that includes old European and Asian music from the beginning till the 19. century. They toured succesfully in Europa, the USA, Canada and China.
