Júlia Vajda was born in Makó, Hungary. After studies in piano, violin and viola she studied singing with excellent masters of the Szeged Conservatory. Since 1979 she has been a member of the opera ensemble of the Szeged National Theatre. First she sang in the choir, but during this period she also sang a lot of solo parts. In 1985 she became a soloist of the company. She has sung a great number of principal roles including: Pamina, Papagena, Despina, Susanna (Mozart), Norina, Adina (Donizetti), Violetta, Gilda, Amelia Grimaldi, Alice Ford, Aida (Verdi), Michaela, Frasquita (Bizet), Nedda (Leoncavallo), Margherite (Gounod), Tatiana (Tchaikovsky), Madame Butterfly, Liu, Manon, Musette, Angelica, Georgette (Puccini) and parts of contemporary operas. She has toured in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Italy, Spain, France, the United Kingdom. She also appears in operettas and in concerts (oratorio and recitals), as well.
