Orsolya Szokolay began playing the violin when she was six year old. In 1986 she was admitted to the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in the class of special talents, where she studied with András Kiss, then Dénes Kovács. She gave her first significant public performance at the age of 13 in France with the Orchestra of the Festival of Chion. For her first radio broadcast in 1990, she was awarded the Hungarian Radio Public's prize. In 1991 she was invited to Dublin, Ireland for the Festival of Young Eurpean Strings. She has also given concerts in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, and Canada. In 1994 she enrolled to the Music Academy of Vienna at the class of Michael Frischenschlager and Eugenia Tchougaeva. Also in Vienna she obtained the Cultural Ministry's scholarship. In 1994 she performed at the Budapest Spring Festival and in the following year she continued her studies in Budapest at Géza Kapás's class. In 1996 she was invited to Canada for the Orford Music Festival where she gave concerts and was awarded the Nádasdy Foundation Prize. In 1997 she was invited to join Eleonore Turovsky's class at the Montreal Music University.
