Éva Szonda was born in Budapest. Graduated at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in 1984, she frequented the master classes of Júlia Hamari at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. Since 1984 she has been the leading mezzo-soprano of the National Opera Szeged. She has sung a great number of principal roles including: Cherubino, Dorabella (Mozart), Cenerentola, Rosina (Rossini), Amneris, Maddalena, Eboli (Verdi), Carmen (Bizet), Santuzza (Mascagni), Judith (in Bartóks Bluebards Castle) and Iokaste (in Stravinskys Oedipus Rex). She has toured to Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Italy, Spain, France, United Kingdom and Singapore, not only with opera productions but also as a soloist in oratorio.
