He graduated from the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in 1982, where he studied choir conducting with István Párkai. He also studied voice training and theory with Miklós György Kerényi. Since 1981, he has worked as a singing teacher in secondary schools, and since 1997, has been a teacher of choir conducting at the ELTE University music faculty. Besides teaching and conducting, he has performed as a member of the Lassus Vocal Ensemble. In 1994 he was appointed advisor on singing and music to the Budapest Pedagogical Institute, and in 1997, his brief was expanded to a national level. In recent years, he has sat on many juries at Hungarian and international singing competitions. He is a member of the board of the Hungarian Choirs and Orchestras Association, and the director of the Ancient Music branch, founder of the Óbuda Chamber Choir. In 1999, Ákos Erdős and the ELTE Pro Musica Hungarica mixed choir won first prize at the 7th Budapest International Choir Competition, as well as the special conducting.
