Andrea Várhegyi began her music studies in Miskolc in 1979, where, after finishing music school, she became a student of Zita S. Novák at the Miskolc Specialist Music High School. She was admitted to the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in 1989, where she was a member of the class of Béla Bánfalvi and Mária Zs. Szabó. In 1991 she won third prize at the Zathureczky Violin Competition organized by the Academy of Music, and in 1992 she was awarded first prize in the same competition. In 1993 she won second prize at the Jenő Hubay Violin Competition. She has been a regular participant in the master courses of Dénes Zsigmondy and Dénes Kovács, and has received instruction from György Pauk and Lóránd Fenyves. Her chamber music teachers were György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados. Since high school she has been a regular performer in concerts of contemporary music.
