András Adorján was born in Budapest, grew up in Copenhagen and has been resident of Munich since 1974. After having graduated as a dentist in Copenhagen in 1968, he started his music studies with Aurèle Nicolet and Jean-Pierre Rampal. He was soon awarded prizes in international competitions: he won the Jacob Gade Prize in Copenhagen in 1968, the International Flute Competition of Montreux in 1968 and the First Grand Prix in the International Flute Competition of Paris in 1971. In the press he is considered as one of the most outstanding flautists of his generation. As a soloist he has played with the best chamber and symphonic orchestras of the worlds, like Stockholm, Cologne, Baden-Baden and Munich. Since 1987 Mr.Adorján is a professor of the Musikhochschule of Cologne and the Musikhochschule of Munich since 1996. He has recently made the first recording of François Deviennes all fourteen flute concertos, and has recorded on CD all flute concertos by C. Ph. E. Bach. Besides, he has made a new recording of the flute concerto of Carl Nielsen, as well as a tango-album with Argentine musicians for flutes, bandoneon and double bass.
