He started playing the clarinet, a family tradition, when he was 10 years old. In the secondary school he took up first the alto then the tenor saxophone. He soon joined some local amateur bands, with whom he won music competitions, and even made recordings at the Hungarian Radio. In 1991 he moved to Budapest and enrolled in the jazz department of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. He got his degree in 1996. While studying at the Academy he played with many well-known Hungarian jazz musicians, took part in several jazz and pop records, and performed regularly in jazz clubs and at festivals. Between 1996 and 1999 he was a member of the Aladár Pege Quartet, made numerous records and went on tours appearing at major jazz festivals all over Europe. At the end of 1999 he left the Pege Quartet and founded his own formation, the band Jazzpression.
