He began learning to play the piano at the age of seven. Since completing his studies at the Béla Bartók Conservatory he has been a student of György Nádor at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. In 1986 he won first prize in the National Piano Competition for secondary school students, while in 1992 he won first prize in the Békés-Tarhos National Piano Competition for conservatory students. He took first prize also in the Liszt Piano Competition of the Academy of Music, and reached the finals of the 1996 International Liszt Piano Competition.
