Tamás Major graduated from the Franz Liszt College in 1981, having studied violin with József Szász and chamber music with György Kurtág. He participated at the 1979 Karajan orchestral competition as a concertmaster, where he won the second prize. He also was runner up at the 1980 Budapest Hubay violin competition. From 1981 to 1983, he worked with the Toscanini Symphony Orchestra in Parma as concertmaster. He is currently the concertmaster of the Swiss Italian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 1984, he has worked regularly with the Budapest Festival Orchestra. Tamás Major is a very active chamber musician and has made innumerable recordings for radio, television and record companies.
