Percussionist Szabolcs Joó was born in 1978 in Makó. In 1996 he won first prize at the Miskolc National Percussion Competition and in 1999, was third at the Brno International Percussion Competition. In 2001, he and Lajos Tóth were runners up at the marimba duo competition, organised at Saint-Truiden in Belgium. In 1997 he began studying with Zoltán Rácz at the Music Academy from where he graduated in 2002. He is currently a member of the National Philharmonic Orchestra and teaches at the Béla Bartók Music College.
