Péter Tfirst was born into a family of musicians, his mother was a violin teacher and his father, Zoltán Tfirst, a violinist who was a member of the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra for 50 years from 1969.
His teachers at the Liszt Academy were László Kóté and Dénes Kovács. He joined the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra in 2001 at the request of János Rolla. Initially he was the orchestra's viola soloist, then leader of the second violin solo, and since 2016 he has been the orchestra's concertmaster.
