He is an unusual character in Hungarian musical life. He graduated first as a mechanical engineer at the same time was a member of a professional soccer team. Immediately after he obtained a post as organ teacher at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, he has attended many master classes in Western Europe. In addition to performing, István Ruppert gives lectures about organs, organ playing and organ repertoire in Hungary. His musical interest range over the entire organ repertoire, from the earliest keyboard works through Frescobaldi to Messiaen and contemporary Hungarian composers. These he has performed in a great many churches and centers of music in Hungary and throughout Europe.
In 2020 he was awarded with Ferenc Liszt Prize.
