Ferenc Csaba Kerek graduated from the Academy of Music in 1974 as a pupil of Kornél Zempléni, and in 1976 he won first prize at the Debussy Competition in Varallo (Italy). Since then, he has been performing at concerts of the National Philharmonic Orchestra and later the National Philharmonic Orchestra. Between 1988 and 2006 he was a member of the Hungarian Baroque Trio. He has premiered several contemporary works. He has recorded solo and chamber works for Hungarian Radio. He has given concerts in almost all European countries and in Cuba.

He is currently a professor of piano at the Béla Bartók University of Szeged, Faculty of Arts, Department of Piano. From 2003 to 2013 he was the founding Dean of the Faculty of Music at the University of Szeged, and from 1995 to 2013 he was Head of the Department of Piano. Founding member and artistic director of the Pro Barok Society of Nagyszentmiklós since 2001. Founder and Artistic Director of the Szeged International Béla Bartók Piano Competition since 2004. Founder and Artistic Director of the Szeged Academy of Arts (Summer Academy) and Master Class since 2005, and since the same year founder and artistic director of the Szeged Chapter of the Liszt Ferenc Society. In 2009 he launched the Szeged Contemporary Music Competition and since then he has been the chairman of the Music Working Committee of the SZAB of the Hungarian Academy of Music. Since 2013 he has been a lecturer at the Kecskemét International Kodály Symposium. He regularly gives lectures and master classes and is a jury member of national and international competitions. Several of his musical articles have been published in Parlando.

In 2001 he was awarded the Leo Weiner Prize for his work in music education. In 2001 he was also awarded the Hungarian Higher Education Memorial Plaque. In 2003 he received the Liszt Ferenc Prize and in 2009 the Golden Ring - for the culture of Szeged. He has been awarded the Artisjus Performer Award 5 times for outstanding performance of Hungarian contemporary music, most recently in 2024.
