Tamás Benkócs graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in 1995, where his professors included László Hara, József Vajda and Tibor Fülemile. He attended masterclasses of Brian Pollard, Milan Turkovic and Dag Jensen.
Still a student of the Liszt Academy, in 1992 he became leader of the bassoon section of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. From 1998 to 2003 he was principal bassoon player in the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. From late 2003 he is again member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra.
He performs regularly as a chamber muisician and soloist in Hungary, Germany, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. In 2001 he has signed a contract with the recording company Naxos to record all 39 Vivaldi bassoon concerti in a six-volume edition, and the first two editions are released.
