Selmeczi János
violin
He was born in Cluj (Romania) in 1953. His first violin teachers were Paula Kouba and László Koszta-Rab. At the Music Academy of his native town he was pupil of András Ágoston. Between 1976 and 1985 he was member of the Philharmony of Turgu Mures and leader of the chamber orchestra "Camerata Transsylvanica". Once settled down in Hungary, he was first concert master of the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra, later of the Hungarian State Opera House, as well as first violin of the Éder String Quartet. Between 1994 and 1997 he worked in France. Since 1998 he has been concert master of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In 2003 he was winner of the Sándor Végh Competition of BFO musicians.
