The Honvéd (Army) Male Voice choir was formed in 1948 and gave its first concert in 1949 at the Budapest Opera House. Many internationally famous artists began their careers as members of the choir, among them Róbert Ilosfalvy, József Réti and József Gregor. The choir´s repertoire is extensive embracing all stylistic periods from Gregorian to 20th century European and Hungarian works. Their programs give special emphasis to the choral art of Liszt, Bartók and Kodály. The choir has worked with such distinguished conductors as János Ferencsik, Lamberto Gardelli, Antal Doráti, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi and Sir Georg Solti. In 1998, the Honvéd Male Voice Choir received the Béla Bartók - Ditta Pásztory Prize. Since 2001, the ensemble´s music director has been Gábor Hollerung while its resident conductor Péter Drucker was appointed in 2003.
