Sonus Cordis Kvartett (Sonus Cordis Quartet)

Orchestra, choir, ensemble

Formed
2019

The Sonus Cordis Quartet was founded in 2019 at the initiative of the Artisjus award-winning violinist Eszter Krulik and violinist Róza Lachegyi. The main profile of the ensemble is contemporary music and improvisation, they have an active and lively relationship with different generations of composers and they boast dozens of performances every year. In April 2021, the Sonus Cordis Quartet premiered new string quartets by the composers of "Studio 5" in the Great Hall of the Liszt Academy, and in May and June 2021, new string quartets by the composition faculty of the Liszt Academy were presented in the Solti Hall. Also in 2021, the Sonus Cordis Quartet was awarded the Sándor Végh String Quartet Scholarship by the Philharmonia, which enabled them to perform for a year throughout Hungary. The Hungarian premiere of the string quartet "The four quarters" by the world-famous British composer Thomas Adés is also attributed to them. Sonus Cordis Historique made its debut on period instruments at the Börzsöny Baroque Early Music Festival in August 2022.

In 2021, they created their highly popular Sonus Cordis Days chamber music and improvisation course at St. Andrew's Castle in Tolna County, where they do not give students lessons in the classical sense, but rather inspire artists by forming mixed chamber groups with students. Equally popular is their project called Intense Orchestra Days, which they organise in November each year at the Váci Conservatory for string students. In 2023/24 they held a series of concerts at ISON called Impro Workshop, also for young people, with invited guest artists. Since 2024 they have been collaborating with percussionist Tamás Schlanger, with whom they have launched their New Soul Music concert series. They are present at all the major concert venues in Budapest, and have performed at Müpa Budapest, the Liszt Academy, the BMC and the Fuga, among others.
