Tálas Áron Trió
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
The Áron Tálas Trio was founded in 2014 by Áron Tálas (piano), József Barcza Horváth (double bass) and András Mohay (drums). In 2015 Attila Gyárfás took over on drums. In 2016 they were voted Band of the Year by the readers of jazzma.hu. The trio’s playing is extremely energetic, with a wide dynamic range. In addition to the harmonic and rhythmic elements of jazz, their unique sound also incorporates influences from folk and classical music, as well as elements of popular music. The trio’s debut album, Floating Island, was released in Japan by Gats Productions in 2016. Their second album, Little Beggar, released by BMC Records in 2018, was named Hungarian Jazz Album of the Year by Gramofon magazine.
The trio underwent a lineup change in 2020: József Barcza Horváth was replaced by double bassist István Tóth Jr., and Attila Gyárfás was replaced by drummer László Csízi. In 2023 their third album, titled A New Questions, Old Answers, which also featuring Áron’s compositions, was also released by BMC Records; it showcases the best of the traditional jazz piano trio genre through groove-driven tracks rich in melody and emotion. In 2023, readers of jazz.hu voted the album Album of the Year, and in 2024, it also received international recognition on the 33third.org jazz radio chart. In 2025 Hungaroton released their joint album with the Danubia Orchestra and Máté Hámori, featuring a reimagining of Mozart’s Piano Concerto in B-flat major, in which the motifs of the piece are accompanied by jazz cadenzas and improvised episodes.
The trio has already given countless highly successful concerts at venues including the Opera House, the Palace of Arts, the Budapest Jazz Club and the Opus Jazz Club of BMC.
