The Ewald Brass Quintet was founded in 1996 by students of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. The members of the quintet are also renowned as soloists: in earlier years they have all won national competitions or been awarded prizes.

Recognizing the basic conditions of the demanding chamber music scene, this youthful ensemble - through meticulous, untiring work - has perfected tone and synchronization, to which credit must go equally to their innumerable rehearsals and international competitions as well as the concert opportunities they have fully capitalized on. It is a basic aim of the ensemble to boarden the appeal and uderstanding of the Hungarian music culture.

After four years of interpreting Hungarian contemporary music all across Europe, at the end of 2000 the Ewald Brass Quintet won the highest recognition of the Hungarian composers: the Artisjus Prize. The Ensemble's greatest successes to date have been taking gold at the 7th Narbonne International Brass Quintet Competition, National Trumpet Days of Bremen, First South - Korean Brass Competition in Cheju, and the 2nd Jan Koetsier Brass Quintet Competition in Munich.

The fact that such young group of musicians triumphed at these serious competitions is unprecedented, and it is not only increased their recognition but also enhanced the international reputation of Hungarian brass music. The results of their victory have materialized in a flood of invitations to conduct tours and concerts in Europe and the United States. By now, quintet is supported by JA-Musik and the Wenzel Meinl GmbH Germany, and the members can play the highest quality instrumentes to enhance the music experience of the audience in this way as well.

From December 2003. they had been going to a national tour of 15 concerts sponsored by the GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical company. They are permanent participants of the Spring Festival (Budapest), Mini Festival (Budapest), Bartók Seminar (Szombathely). Art Days of Zemplén.

The members of the quintet founded a festival in Fehérgyarmat in 2003. The festival Brass Chambermusic Days of Szatmár is organized in august in every year. In this year (2006)the important part of the festival will be the Trumpet Competition for academy students, but in the programme there are concerts what people can visit and listen.

Thus they will continue to present their wide repertoire - comprising the best pieces of the brass music genre from the rennesaince through the classics to modern works - at numerous concerts at home and abroad.
