Bolla Quartet

Orchestra, choir, ensemble

Formed
2003

The members of the Bolla Quartet are four young musicians who are equally successful in their individual careers as well as a band. The Bolla Quartet was formed on 15th October 2003, Gabor’s 15th birthday. They gave numerous concerts, played at first class gigs and festivals and recorded an album in 2004 titled „The Way We Play”. Robert Szakcsi Lakatos joined the band at the beginning of 2005, replacing pianist Gabor Cseke.

Besides being regular guests at some of the best known Hungarian jazz venues, they made their advances on the international scene. In June 2004, the quartet played at the Peter & Paul Festival in St.Petersburg at the personal invitation of one of Russia’s best known jazzmen, pianist Andrei Kondakov.

In 2005, the Bolla Quartet performed to standing ovation at Amsterdam’s most presigous jazz-venue, the Bimhuis, and also played in Belgium, Austria, Germany and Slovakia.

The Bolla Quartet scooped both the Grand Prix and the Prix du Public at the 2005 Avignon Jazz Festival in France.
