Massink-Bori Quartet
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
Formed
The Massink-Bori Quartet is the materialisation of a more than 15-year old friendship between Dutch saxophone player Peter Massink and Hungarian pianist Viktor Bori. They met in 1988 in Amsterdam, where they both took a commission to play in the London production of the musical Cats.
They later formed a band with the name Lush Life, and in 1993 they had their first album, Better Times, released. On this album the Uruguayan drummer Enrique Firpi and the Hungarian bass player Béla Lattmann are the partners of the two leaders. After a few-year hiatus, while Peter Massink worked in Athens in Mikis Theodorakis band, the band got together again in the autumn of 2002 for a short tour starting in Passau and ending at the Szolnok Jazz Festival. Since then they have accepted invitations on numerous occasions to perform either as a duo or in quartet. In contrast to their earlier fusion jazz endeavours, recently they only play acoustic jazz, where Massinks and Boris compositions serve as springboards.
Members of the group:
Peter Massink (NL) saxophone, bass clarinet
Bori Viktor piano
Wolfram Derschmidt (A) double bass
Gerald Braumandel (D) drum
