Free Style Chamber Orchestra
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
The 20-piece chamber orchestra was founded by János Nagy composer and Máté Pálhegyi flautist. The formation, as its name indicates, aims at transgressing conventional borders of genre. The traditional string orchestra together with a normal jazz quartet is extended by a section of classical woodwind players who, if necessary, can play instruments used in jazz as well. Evergreen jazz standards as well as contemporary pieces gain a unique sonority as they are performed by a string orchestra enlarged by the jazz quartet and the four woodwinds. The usual big-band sound is enriched by new and unexpected tonal shades. Improvisation plays a central role in the music of the Free Style Chamber Orchestra, which always places the carefully constructed compositions into a new aspect for the listener.
