Gyula Babos is one of the most outstanding guitar players of the Hungarian jazz scene, a major driving force of modern Hungarian improvised music. His band, the Babos Project Special represents a peculiar synthesis of electronic jazz and Roma music - he calls it an Eastern European contemporary ensemble. "I would like to intgrate the musical treasures of our broader region into my music, of which improvisation is an immensely important feature as well" says Babos. Babos, as he regularly does, invited some of the most talented young musicians to the band. On piano they have Róbert Szakcsi Lakatos, alumnus of the classical and jazz faculties of the Basel Academy of Music, and winner of the MOntreux Jazz Piano Competition. The drummer is the recently discovered talent, Gábor Oláh, and the bassist is Babos' long time companion, one of the most experienced jazz musicians in the country, Viktor Hárs. Mónika Veress' peculiar voice adds a unique flavour to the music.
