Corpus Harsona Quartet

Orchestra, choir, ensemble

The Corpus Trombone Quartet was founded in 2001 by young students of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, with the assistance of their teacher, Tivadar Sztán. Their most important goal is to perform works of Hungarian contemporary composers both in Hungary and abroad. They also would like to get acquainted with the repertoire for trombone quartet and to popularise it among professionals of music and the public at large. The members of the ensemble are recognized soloists at the same time. They have been prizewinners of important national music competitions. However, they started working on the development of teamwork and of a homogeneous sound with great pleasure. During the first year of their collective career they complied with a great number of invitations, such as exhibition openings, celebrations, festivals and they played in prestigious concert halls of Budapest, for example in the Hungarian Radio, in the National Museum, in the great hall of the Liszt Music Academy, etc. After these concerts they had the opportunity to make their first recording with the Hungarian Radio, which can still often be heard. In autumn of 2001 the ensemble participated in their first international competition, the 7th Chamber Music Competition for Brass Ensembles in Passau, where they were given a Special Award. They attended the workshop of Armin Bachmann at the Liszt Academy in 2001, then Edgar Manyak's workshop in the Brass Festival of Szekszárd for two consecutive years. In March 2003 they participated in an international chamber music competition in Illzach in France where they got into the final round, and they were given a honourable mention for being the best brass ensemble. In August 2003 they won the trombone quartet competition in Finland, which was organized by the International Trombone Association. In September they came out first in the 5th Philip Jones International Chamber Music Competition in Guebwiller, France. Thanks to these victories, they gained the sponsorship of the Bach house that gave them free run of four new instruments, with the mediation of the Fon-Trade Corporation in Budapest. Members of the Quartet was awarded in 2024 the Ferenc Liszt Prize.
