The Budapest Chamber Opera is musical theatre ensemble that fuses European and Hungarian operatic traditions with the New Wave emerging in contemporary international opera. It was first formed in 1991, but since 1997 has operated as a foundation. It has presented a memorable series of productions. Along with classic masterpieces (such as Gluck's Orfeo and Euridice) the Budapest Chamber Opera has given world premieres of contemporary works (e.g. music by Péter Eötvös). Its artistic director is Domokos Moldován, and another constant factor in productions has been the Tomkins Vocal Ensemble. In 2003 they enjoyed a great success with a production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, performed jointly with the Angelical Girl's Choir. In 2004, they visited England with a production of Vivaldi's Tigrane as part of the Magyar Magic festival.
