The world famous Bartók String Quartet gave its first concert in October 1957. By the time of the quartet's 40th anniversary, the musicians had given a further 3600 concerts and eight years later, are still going strong. The Bartók Quartet has played in every continent in the world, and made many legendary recordings. It has received countless awards including the Kossuth prize and the special award bestowed by UNESCO. The Quartet's members are: Péter Komlós (first violin), Géza Hargitai (second violin), Géza Németh (viola) and László Mező (cello). The Quartet's repertoire embraces virtually everything written for the medium.
