Tóth Viktor Quartet
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
The members of the band got to know each other as pupils of the Jazz Department of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, and had already played together in different ensembles before the quartet was formed. In their repertoire we can find be-bop, hard bop, and standard main stream pieces as well as original compositions. The band functions as a kind of workshop: their main objective is to immerse themselves in studying the music of Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, the Miles Davis Quintet, and the John Coltrane Quartet. At the rehearsals they strive to create a complex orchestral sound. Their performances are characterised by improvisation, creativity, dynamism and lots of energy.
