The Auer String Quartet was formed in 1990 by students from the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest where they studied with Professor András Mihály, Sándor Devich, György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados. In 1991 and 1992 they profited by the taching of the Amadeus Quartet at Royal Academy of Music in London. They were awarded the first prize of the Weiner Chamber Music Competition of the Ferenc Liszt Academy in 1991. It was followed by the second prize of the Viotti Chamber Music Competition in Verscelli in 1992. In 1993, at the 17th Internatinal String Quartet Competition at Evian, they were awarded the second prize, and three special prizes: Special Prize of the Press, Prize of Villa Medici Fundation and the Mozart Prize for the best interpretation. In 1996 Auer Quartet was choosen as Best Ensemble of the Year in Hungary. In 1997, they won the first prize of the 7th Yehudi Menuhin International String Quartet Competition in London and a contract for an Euroepan tour with 40 concerts. In 2000, they were awarded the Liszt Prize. The quartet is a regular guest at the leading concert venues of Europe, Japan and Australia.
