Czirják Csaba Quartet
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
The band, initially a quartet, was founded by Csaba Czirják guitarist and composer when he returned to Hungary after completing his studies in the United States. Together with his young fellow musicians, his aim is to make modern main stream music as well as his own compositions known to people in Hungary and Europe. In January 2004 the quartet was extended to a quintet when saxophonists Kristóf Bacsó joined them. Their first (self produced) album came out in February 2004 entitled Work in Progress then still featuring the quartet. The compositions on the CD are jazz standards by legendary figures of jazz like John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Billy Strayhorn, and Joe Henderson. Their new CD featuring original compositions was released at the end of 2004. Their obvious goal is to familiarize their music with as many jazz enthusiasts as possible, therefore they constanty look for opportunities to perform in jazz clubs or at festivals at home as well as abroad. The line-up of the quintet can be considered unusual with two saxophones and a guitar beside a rhythm section, however, it gives ample space for freely flowing improvisation. Despite their young age (they are 27 years old on the average), they have all played with the greatest jazz musicians in Hungary on single occasions and on a long-term basis, too. Their repertoire containing jazz standards and own compositions is ever broadening.
