Camerata Transsylvanica
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
Formed
1966
Camerata Transsylvanica was established in Marosvásárhely (Tirgu Mures) in 1966 representing the best of the Transylvanian string-playing school, which is a combination of the German-Hungarian tradition from Joachim to Hubay, and the French-Romanian tradition of Enescu and Thibaud. Camerata Transsylvanica has won a reputation with its repertoire ranging from the classical to the contemporary. The first director of the orchestra was Peter Ágoston, and followed by János Selmeczi and Sándor Bálint. After the most members were moving to Hungary, the orchestra was reestablished in Budapest in 1989 under conduction of János Selmeczi. Their aim is to continue the Central & Eastern European music traditions of Transsylvania.
