"I was only superficially familiar with Musorgsky´s work, so after a detailed study of the cycle, a thorough knowledge of its genesis and listening to numerous recordings, I decided that I would like to compose a piece that would be performed as an ´inlay´, wedged between the songs of the Nursery. The themes of Musorgsky´s songs - children´s anxieties, the interconnections between play and life, the developing child´s relationship with the outside world - led me to the idea that I should address the transcendent stories of the last two years (2020-2022), which have been experienced on a global scale, in the lyrics of the new songs. To do this, I asked Anastasia Razvalyayeva to help me, who, based on my intentions and the criteria I had set up, collected texts and reminiscences from Russian and Ukrainian mothers from the time of the Covid 19 epidemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war that broke out in February 2022. From these texts, I have compiled and arranged the text of the song cycle in dramaturgical order, in which I have also adapted several lines of poetry from the Nursery." (Marcell Dargay)
