The work uses the poem "The Seventh" (A hetedik) by Attila József and also a newspaper article on Béla Bartók´s Violin Quartet No. 7, from the Hungarian "Esti Újság" (Evening News), Page 6., published on the 21th September 1943. The source of the latter was provided to the composer by violist Péter Bársony.
Both texts must be recited by the cellist. (If this is not feasible, the text may be performed by an additional reciter, who in this case will be seated next to the quartet.)
