Remarks, other info
"Four Days, Four Nights" seeks to connect the elements of reality with those of self-awareness, dreams, and imagination. Each day is physical, active, emotional, and clearly bound to time, while each night is free, elusive—like a blend of sounds and motifs we have experienced throughout the day. The composition is written for the Quasar Saxophone Quartet but also incorporates electronic tape parts that are introduced during the night sections. These tapes include sounds from a field recording I made while walking along the Seine in Paris, as well as a lullaby, the sound of an old piano, a monologue of mine, and various multiphonics recorded by the Quasar Saxophone Quartet. I composed the piece during my residency in Paris, and many of its ideas and elements were inspired by my new surroundings and the period of self-reflection I was able to experience there.
